USB Copy

USB Copy is designed to enable fast data backup between TNAS and USB storage devices. It supports automatic detection of USB devices and automatic backup initiation, and will safely unmount the device once the process is completed, ensuring secure and reliable offline storage.

Note
  1. Only USB/SD devices with file systems that can be recognized by TNAS (such as FAT32, NTFS, ext3, ext4, exFAT, btrfs, and vfat) can be used for data backup.
  2. When copying files from a TNAS device to an external USB storage device, if the external device is formatted with FAT32 or exFAT, files larger than 4 GB cannot be copied.

Tasks

Task Management

You can customize and manage copy tasks for external USB/SD storage devices, as well as import/export files between NAS and USB/SD devices. When the USB/SD device is reinserted for copying, the NAS will recognize the matched device and apply the same copy settings.

On the task page, the following operations are available:

  1. Create: Create a backup task
  2. Edit: Edit the selected task
  3. Start/Stop: Start or stop a task
  4. Delete: Delete the selected backup task
  5. Disable/Enable: Disable or enable the selected backup task

How to Create a Backup Task

  1. Insert the external USB storage device into the USB port of the TNAS device
  2. Click the "Create" icon in the upper right corner
  3. Configure general task information—task name, backup path, backup source, and backup destination
  4. Select a backup mode:
Incremental Mode: Backs up only the files that have been modified or newly added since the last backup. Unchanged files are not duplicated. Suitable for scenarios requiring high backup speed
Mirror Mode: Creates a full copy of the backup source at the target location, replicating all files and directories to ensure complete consistency. Suitable for scenarios requiring strict data integrity
Multi-Version Mode: Saves multiple versions of the source data based on time, with each version being a full backup and completely independent. This mode requires more storage space and is suitable for scenarios with strict requirements for historical version control
  5. Configure file filters:
    • File size filter—back up or exclude files within specified sizes
    • File format filter—back up or exclude files of specified formats
  6. Configure task schedule:
    • Execution cycle—cycle, time, and interval
  7. Confirm the settings and click "Confirm" to complete the creation of the backup task
Instruction

Backup tasks will automatically correspond to recognized USB devices. Tasks for devices that are not currently connected will display the status "USB device removed."

Settings

Device Control

Configure the maximum number of backup versions and the USB device read mechanism. The available options include:

  • When a USB device is inserted, the associated task will start automatically
  • Before a backup task begins, the associated USB device will be automatically mounted
  • The USB device will automatically eject once the backup is successfully completed
  • After the backup is completed, the USB device's disk will be forced into immediate sleep mode (the disk must support the sleep function)

Notifications

  • Enable buzzer alert: Use a buzzer alert when a backup starts and finishes
  • Enable system notifications: Send a message notification to the administrator when a backup starts and finishes

Log Management

You can view the logs of the entire application and perform the following operations:

  • Search: Search task events
  • Refresh: Refresh the task logs
  • Export: Export task logs
  • Delete: Delete task logs. You can delete all logs or logs of specified tasks
  • Settings: Configure the log retention policy. Logs that do not meet the policy will be automatically deleted
