I have newly purchased a TNAS. How do I install the system and initialize it?

Overview​

The system installation for a new TNAS includes the following steps:

  1. Hardware installation (including hard drive installation);
  2. Installing the TOS operating system;
  3. Basic system configuration and storage configuration;
  4. Logging into TOS via a web browser;

Using the Installation Guide & Related Troubleshooting Methods:

  1. Find the Quick Installation Guide Locate the Quick Installation Guide flyer in the product packaging; enter the URL address shown on the flyer into your web browser. If you cannot find such a flyer in the packaging or have lost it, please visit the following link to get started. https://start.terra-master.com Enter your email address, select your model or Product ID, and then click "Start". You can find the model or Product ID on the label at the bottom of the TNAS device.

  2. Hardware and Hard Drive Installation Follow the instructions to install the hard drives, connect the power and network cables to the TNAS device, and then power it on;

Important Note

To avoid system crashes and data loss, you need to refer to the Compatibility List and choose the correct hard drives. Using incompatible drives, desktop hard drives (e.g., Seagate Barracuda Green), or unhealthy hard drives with bad sectors or blocks may lead to issues such as system installation failure, system crashes, or even data loss.

  1. Finding Your TNAS on the Network To help you find the TNAS, you can download the TNAS PC desktop application and search for the TNAS by running TNAS PC on your Windows or MAC computer. Select the TNAS shown in the list and then click "Login";
Important Note

If after clicking "Login" in TNAS PC, the application jumps to the IE (the default browser built into Windows) web browser, please copy the IP address from IE and try using another, more recent version of a web browser, such as Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or 360 Browser in Speed Mode. Otherwise, due to IE's compatibility issues, you might encounter problems during installation. If you prefer to log in from TNAS PC, change the Windows default browser from IE to another browser.

  1. Installing TOS on the TNAS

Please follow the prompts to install TOS. Automatic online installation is recommended. However, if you have not connected your TNAS to the internet or cannot connect to the internet, you can download the TOS installation package and install it manually.

To download the TOS installation package, visit: https://download.terra-master.com/ To avoid installation abnormalities caused by package corruption during download, please check the MD5 value before installation. After the TOS installation is complete, your TNAS device will automatically restart.

  1. The installation package is a .ins compressed file. You can use it directly for installation; do not decompress it!
  2. TOS installation takes approximately 5-10 minutes. If the system version requires a kernel update, it might take longer, around 20 minutes. Do not refresh the webpage or cut the power before the webpage indicates completion, otherwise the device might become bricked.
  1. System Configuration After successfully installing TOS, the system will prompt you to set up some basic system configurations. Username: Default is admin; Password: You must remember this, as it is required to log into TOS; Security Email: You can use this email address to reset your password in case you forget it. It is recommended that you complete email verification.

  1. Storage Configuration Only if you selected "Manual Installation" will you be able to proceed step-by-step with storage configuration; otherwise, the system will automatically use the default storage configuration.
Note

After system configuration and storage configuration are completed, the system will format the hard drives. During the initialization process, any hard drives you installed into the TNAS will be formatted! Please back up any data on the hard drives first!

  1. Logging into TOS To perform advanced settings on the TNAS or try installing applications, you need to log into TOS. To log into TOS, enter the IP address or your TNAS device name in the address bar of your web browser, for example: //192.168.1.10/ or //TNAS device name.local/

Username: Default is admin, unless you have created other users; Password: The password is the one you set during the installation process;

  2. After entering the username and password, if your interface stays at "Loading..." and you cannot log into TOS, please use the latest version of Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or 360 Browser in Speed Mode instead;
