Searching for Files or Folders
Search
Enter keywords in the search bar to perform a deep search from the current folder downward through all subfolders and files, ultimately displaying the search results.
Advanced Search
The advanced search feature allows you to obtain precise search results by entering specific search criteria. Click the "magnifying glass" icon next to the search bar in the upper right corner to access search settings.
- Keywords: Enter keywords to search for files or folders with matching names.
- Location: Click "Browse" to customize the location scope for searching files or folders.
- File Type: Select file types from the dropdown menu, such as folders, text, documents, etc.
- Time Type: Based on the modification time of files or folders.
- Time: Select time ranges from the dropdown menu, such as today, yesterday, this week, etc.
- Size (B): You can choose "greater than" or "less than" and enter a size to search for files/folders matching the specified size.
- Extension: Enter file extensions to limit the search scope to specific file types.
Common Operations
After entering your target directory, you can click the "New" button to create files or folders. Simultaneously, right-clicking provides more operation options.
- New File/Folder: File or folder names cannot start with spaces and cannot contain the following special characters: / # $ ^ * < > . .. ' " . File or folder names cannot exceed 255 characters, and the total path length cannot exceed 4096 bytes.
- Rename: If a folder is mounted as a remote directory, its name cannot be modified.
- Copy or Move: Select the files or folders you wish to move or copy, then click the corresponding "Copy" or "Move" option to complete the operation.
- Compress and Extract: Currently supports .zip format compressed files. When extracting, if you need to specify a directory, select the "Extract to" option.
- Upload and Download: You can add local files to File Manager by uploading or dragging and dropping. For uploading large files or numerous files, it is recommended to use SMB. When downloading files or folders, the selected files will be automatically downloaded to the location specified in your browser settings. When downloading folders, the system will automatically compress them for easier transfer.
- Open: Double-click files or right-click to preview files or open folders. Text files can be previewed and edited using [Text Editor] or [Online Office].
- Delete: Select the files or folders you need to delete and click the delete option. If the Recycle Bin is enabled for the current shared folder, deleted files will be automatically moved to the #recycle directory.
- Properties: View or modify file and folder information and permissions. When changing file or folder permissions, if there are conflicts between multiple users or user groups' access permissions, the permission priority is: Deny > Read/Write > Read-only.
- Owner: Refers to the user with "Take Ownership" permission for the file. The owner of a file or folder has the highest permissions in the ACL (Access Control List) and can modify their own and other users' access permissions, including read, write, execute, and inheritance settings.
- Apply to this folder, subfolders, and files: This option applies to folders. It replaces the permissions of all subdirectories with the permissions of this folder.
F2: Rename Del: Delete Ctrl + A: Select All Ctrl + X: Cut Ctrl + C: Copy Ctrl + V: Paste
- New shared folders can only be created by users with administrator privileges.
- Administrators can directly change the owner of files or folders; regular users must have "Take Ownership" permission to modify the owner of files or folders.
- When creating new subfiles or subfolders in encrypted shared folders, the name cannot exceed 143 characters.
- To select multiple items, hold down the Shift or Ctrl key while selecting.
- If the Recycle Bin is enabled, deleted files or folders can be directly found and restored in [Recycle Bin], or by entering the #recycle directory of the shared folder.
- When tasks take too long to execute or multiple tasks are running simultaneously, click the minimize task progress bar to allow the task to continue running in the background. To view more detailed information or progress about the task, go to Desktop and click the task queue icon on the right.
Favorites
Favorites is a very practical tool that significantly improves your efficiency in managing and quickly accessing important files, images, audio, video, and other resources, making it convenient to find and use them at any time.
- Add to Favorites: Select a file or folder, right-click and find this option.
- Share: Create share links for your files in Favorites for easy sharing.
- Remove from Favorites: Delete shortcuts from Favorites.
Sharing
You can quickly share files or folders stored in TNAS. Simply create a share link for a file or folder. This operation generates a link and QR code that you can send to friends or other users. Whether they have a TOS account or not, recipients can click the link to view or download the selected file or folder.
Create
- Share: Select a file or folder, right-click and find this option.
- Link Settings: Set the title, time, password, access count, etc. for the share link.
Title: Set a title for the share link.
Creation Time: Specify the creation time of the share link.
Expiration Time: Define the validity period of the share link using expiration time and creation time. Once the specified period is exceeded, the link will become invalid.
Password: Set an extraction password for accessing the share link.
Access Count: Specify the number of times the share link can be accessed. Once the specified count is exceeded, the link will become invalid.
Remote Access Method: Choose from TNAS.online, DDNS service, or custom IPv4/IPv6 address/domain name. If using a custom remote link, the corresponding port number must be filled in simultaneously.
Remote Access Address: The system will automatically select the corresponding remote access address based on the different remote access methods.
Before creating a remote share link, ensure that the remote access service is enabled. Go to Control Panel > Remote Access, and check Enable TNAS.online or Enable DDNS Remote Access. The system uses TNAS.online by default. If modification is needed, you can select the remote access method in File Manager > Settings.
Manage
- Edit: Modify the title, time, password, access count, etc. of the share link.
- Copy Share Link: Share content via link or QR code icon.
- Status: Determine whether the link has expired based on the share link's validity period and access count.
- Cancel Sharing: Canceling sharing will invalidate the shared link, making it inaccessible.
- Clear Expired Shares: Delete all expired share links in the list.
Desktop
Create desktop shortcuts for frequently used files or folders for quick access and management. When sending an application to the desktop, the system automatically generates a corresponding shortcut in the Desktop folder, making it easy to view or delete at any time.
- Create Shortcut: Select a file or folder, right-click and find this option.
- Delete File or Shortcut: You can directly delete files or shortcuts on the desktop, or manage and delete them in the desktop folder via [File Manager].
In TOS 7.0, desktop files are stored in the Desktop folder of the user's personal space. Please be cautious when deleting, modifying, or moving this folder to avoid issues with the normal display or use of desktop files, folders, or application shortcuts.
Safe (Vault)
The Safe provides dual-password and dual-backup protection functions, offering more rigorous and robust security protection for your important files and data, ensuring the safety and reliability of your data storage and management.
Enable
- Password: The password must be at least 8 characters long.
- Reset Password: Resetting the password requires verification of the current user account password. Once the Safe is reset, all stored files will be permanently deleted and unrecoverable, and the original Safe password will also become invalid.
When enabling the Safe, you must properly keep the corresponding key! If the key is unfortunately lost, your data cannot be recovered!
Exit
- Manual Exit: Click the "Exit Safe" button in the toolbar or log out of the system to exit the Safe. When manually exiting the Safe, if there are tasks in progress, you can choose to force exit or wait for the tasks to complete before exiting the Safe.
- Automatic Exit: The Safe automatically exits when there is no operation for 15 minutes and no upload/download tasks.
To maximize the security of your data, it is strongly recommended that you manually exit the Safe during periods when you are not using it!
External Storage You can directly view and access the contents of external storage devices through [File Manager], including USB devices, virtual disks, and mobile hard drives (mechanical/SSD).
Files and folders in external storage devices do not support ACL permission control; their access permissions are determined by the permissions of the user group (admin/allusers) they belong to.
View
- Columns: You can view folder or document information more clearly in the same window, reducing wasted screen space and providing a more convenient and efficient user experience.
- Tabs: You can open multiple interfaces simultaneously in the same window, opening new interfaces without closing the current one, thus maintaining your work continuity and facilitating multitasking.
- List: You can arrange files in the window in list form.
- Thumbnails: You can display files in the window as icons and text.
Settings
- File Manager Logs: Enabling this feature requires installing the "Log Center" application. You can view all user activities in the Log Center.
- HTML Files: Enabling this can prevent others from embedding malicious scripts into your NAS through HTML files.
- Show Hidden Items: Enabling this will display system default hidden configuration files (such as .config). Deleting configuration files may affect the normal operation of some functions, so proceed with caution.
- Thumbnails: Enabling this feature allows you to browse images and videos more intuitively and conveniently.
- Duplicate File Handling: Select the strategy for handling conflicts during file transfer.
Skip: The file you are transferring will be skipped and will not overwrite files with the same name.
Overwrite: The file you are transferring will overwrite files with the same name.
Rename: The file you are transferring will be renamed. The renaming method appends (1) to the end of the file name. If more duplicate files appear, the number will increment sequentially (e.g., (2), (3)...).
Ask Each Time: When performing routine operations on files or folders, the system will pop up a prompt asking how to handle duplicate files. - Recent: Set the number of access records in the Recent module. The system will retain recent access records for up to 60 days.
- Share Links: Set the remote access method for share links.
Default Link: After enabling the TNAS.online remote access service, the system will use TNAS.online as the default remote share link service. If you want to use a DDNS service provider instead, please first enable the corresponding DDNS service and select the created DDNS service provider from the dropdown options.
Custom Link: Supports entering IPv4 address, IPv6 address, or domain name as the remote share link service. Be sure to also fill in the port number corresponding to this link.
If you choose to use DDNS as the remote share link service, please configure port mapping (port forwarding) in your router for the default port 55443 shared by DDNS. After completing the mapping, please fill in the mapped port number in the "Port" input box to ensure normal remote access.
