USB Devices

You can connect USB storage devices to the TNAS USB host ports to expand the TNAS storage capacity.


Management and Operations

Using the feature buttons, you can perform the following operations:

  • Format: Format the USB external storage device into EXT4 or FAT32 file systems.
  • Safely Remove: Safely remove the USB device to prevent data corruption.
  • Encrypt: Encrypt the USB external storage device (after encryption, the device cannot be read on other devices).
  • Export Key: Export the encryption key and save it to your computer (used to recover access if the password is lost).
  • Mount: Encrypted USB devices need to be mounted upon reinsertion to be accessible.
  • Permissions: Set user group access permissions for the USB device.
  • Note

    Encryption will first format the device to an EXT4 file system before applying encryption.
