Volume

A volume in TNAS is the fundamental storage space where all your data, including shared folders and documents, is stored. You must create at least one volume before storing data on TNAS.

Management

Through the buttons in the management tab, you can perform the following operations:

  • Create: Establish a new file volume.
  • Edit: Modify volume settings.
  • Delete: Remove an existing volume, including all its data.
  • File System Defragment: Optimize file system performance by defragmenting accumulated file fragments in selected volumes.
  • File System Compression: Reduce disk space usage by compressing the file system. Higher compression levels offer greater compression ratios but slower transfer speeds.
  • Usage Details: Review volume usage statistics.
  • Settings: Configure thresholds for storage capacity alerts.
  • SSD TRIM: Can clean up invalid data and optimize volume performance.
Note
  1. The file system defragmentation and compression functions are only available for volumes formatted with the BTRFS file system.
  2. The SSD TRIM feature is only available when the storage pool containing the volume consists entirely of SSD-type disks.

How to create a volume?

  1. Confirm the availability of allocatable space in your TNAS storage pool.
  2. Click "Create" to choose whether to establish a volume on an existing storage pool or a new one.
    • Select to create a volume on an existing storage pool.
    • Select to create a volume on a new storage pool, then choose disks and the type of storage pool to create.
  3. Specify the volume's capacity, with a minimum allocation of 100 GB.
  4. Check whether to enable the "HyperLock-WORM file system".
  5. Choose the file format (BTRFS or EXT4) for the volume.
  6. Click "Confirm" to finalize your settings.

HyperLock-WORM File System

HyperLock-WORM is a Write Once, Read Many (WORM) file system designed for storing sensitive data or files that cannot be modified due to regulatory requirements.

  • Enterprise Mode: Data is protected for a specified period after being written, during which it cannot be modified or deleted, ensuring stability and reliability.
  • Compliance Mode: Data written in this mode is permanently protected, ensuring integrity and authenticity.
Warning
  1. HyperLock-WORM file system volumes can only be created starting from the second volume onwards; the first volume cannot be configured as a HyperLock-WORM file system volume.
  2. HyperLock-WORM file system volumes cannot be deleted, and their corresponding storage pools cannot be deleted either.
  3. Files and folders within HyperLock-WORM file system volumes cannot be modified during the protection period.
  4. The capacity and protection period of HyperLock-WORM file system volumes can only be increased and cannot be decreased once set.
