Hyper Cache: Features and Frequently Asked Questions
Applicable Models:
All TNAS Models
I. Feature Introduction
Hyper Cache is an SSD caching acceleration technology independently developed by TerraMaster. Compared with traditional SSD caching, it provides two cache modes to accommodate different usage scenarios and supports the creation of disk arrays for SSDs, thereby enhancing cache speed and data security. Hyper Cache can exponentially improve storage performance, delivering a more efficient and reliable hybrid storage solution for you.
II. Why Can't My SSD Be Set as Hyper Cache?
If an SSD is already installed in the TNAS but cannot be set as Hyper Cache, the possible reasons are as follows:
1. The SSD is not detected by the system
If the system does not detect the SSD, it cannot be set as Hyper Cache.
Please ensure that a SATA SSD or NVMe SSD is installed in your device, and navigate to Storage Management > Disks > Disk to confirm whether the disk is listed.
2. The SSD is already in use
An SSD that is already in use cannot be set as Hyper Cache.
Navigate to Storage Management > Disks > Disk and check whether any usage label appears after the disk name.
- If the SSD has been used to create a storage pool, please delete that storage pool first.
- If the SSD has been assigned as a hot spare, please delete that hot spare first.
- If the SSD has been mounted, please unmount it first.
Once the SSD is released and becomes an idle disk, it can be set as Hyper Cache.
3. The SSD is already used as the system drive
An SSD that serves as the system drive cannot be set as Hyper Cache.
Navigate to Storage Management > Disks > Disk and check whether the label "System Drive" appears after the disk name;
or navigate to Storage Management > Disks > System Drive to check whether the SSD is listed among the current system drives.
To set it as Hyper Cache, please select that SSD and delete the system from the drive first.
4. The SSD is in an unhealthy state
An SSD that is not in a "Normal" state cannot be set as Hyper Cache in order to ensure data security.
Please replace it with a healthy disk and try the configuration again.
